We specialize in the inspection and testing of electrical appliances, installations and emergency lighting. All testing is carried out to the highest standard in accordance with the relevant regulations.
All staff are C.R.B checked (Criminal Records Bureau)
PAT testing (Portable Appliance Testing) in accordance with the IEE Code of Practice for the in-service inspection and testing of electrical equipment.
Electrical Installations Testing - Periodic inspection only or Periodic inspection and test of an electrical installation in accordance with BS 7671- 2008 -17th edition wiring regulations.
Emergency lighting, in accordance with BS 5266-2005.
What are the penalties for not having PAT Testing carried-out?
Fatalities, injuries to personnel or livestock and damage to property
Successful prosecution under the Act or any health and safety statute carries a maximum penalty of a fine of £5000 and/or up to 6 months imprisonment. For breaches under the general duties of the Health Safety at Work Act 1974, penalties of up to £20000 were introduced in 1992. Offences heard on indictment in the Crown Court attract unlimited financial penalties and up to 2 years imprisonment.
WHAT EQUIPMENT REQUIRES INSPECTION & TESTING?
The Following Types Of Electrical Equipment Are Covered By The IEE Code Of Practice For The In-Service Inspection And Testing Of Electrical Equipment 3RD EDITION, (2008). Basically All Appliances Not Part Of The Electrical Installation Should Be Inspected And Tested At Regular Intervals Dependant On The Working Environment.
PORTABLE APPLIANCE
An Appliance Of Less Than 18 Kg In Mass That Is Intended To Be Moved While Operation Or An Appliance Which Can Easily Be Moved From One Place To Another,
MOVABLE EQUIPMENT
(sometimes called transportable)
This Is Equipment Which Is Either - 18kg Or Less In Mass And Not Fixed, E.G. Electric Fire, Or - Equipment With Wheels, Castors Or Other Means To Facilitate Movement By The Operator As Required To Perform Its Intended Use, E.G. Air Conditioning Unit.
HAND-HELD APPLIANCES OR EQUIPMENT
This Is Portable Equipment Intended To Be Held In The Hand During Normal Use, E.G. Hair Dryer, Drill, Soldering Iron.
STATIONARY EQUIPMENT OR APPLIANCES
This Equipment Has A Mass Exceeding 18kb And Is Not Provided With A Carrying Handle, E.G. Refrigerator, Washing Machine.
FIXED EQUIPMENT/APPLIANCES (equipment not fitted with a plug but hard wired into a fused spur.)
This Is Equipment Or An Appliance Which Is Fastened To A Support Or Otherwise Secured In A Specified Location, E.G. Bathroom Heater, Towel Rail.
APPLIANCES/EQUIPMENT FOR BUILDING IN (including equipment not fitted with a plug but hard wired into a fused spur.)
This Equipment Is Intended To Be Installed In A Prepared Recess Such As A Cupboard Or Similar. E.G. A Built-In Electric Cooker, Dishwasher.
INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY EQUIPMENT (BUSINESS EQUIPMENT)
Information Technology Equipment, And Other Equipment E.G. Computers And Mains Powered Telecommunications Equipment, And Other Equipment For General Business Use, E.G. Mail Processing Machines, Electric Plotters, Trimmers, Vdu / Monitors, Data Terminal Equipment, Typewriters, Telephones, Printers, Photo-Copiers, Power Packs, Cord sets.
EXTENSION LEADS
The Use Of Extension Leads Should Be Avoided Where Possible. If Used, They Should Be Tested As Portable Appliances. It Is Recommended That 3-Core Leads (Including A Protective Earthing Conductor) Be Used.
BE AWARE
Not Only Appliances Connected By 3 Pin Plug Should Be Inspected And Tested, Appliances Connected By Fused Connection Unit (Fcu) Or Isolator Also Require Inspection And Testing, Whether They Are 110 Volts, 230 Volts Or 415 Volt Appliances.
If The Company Who You Choose To Carry-Out Your Appliance Testing Are Only Testing Items With A 3 Pin Plug, You Must Question Their Competence.
